November is Home Care, Hospice and Palliative Care Month

November is National Home CareHospice and Palliative Care Month, so we’d like to share a letter from our Home Care client David, who felt that our staff “genuinely cared for and about me not only as a patient but as a person.”

“I wanted to take a moment of your time to tell you how pleased I am with the service I received following hip replacement surgery at the caring hands of Karen Rowland and Ruthann Fournier. They genuinely cared for and about me not only as a patient but as a person. I had no sense they were performing out of professional obligation. Rather, they took time to learn about me as a unique person with individual needs. As these needs evolved so did their treatment, always doing what was best for me – and it was a collaborative effort!

Having had similar care when my other hip was replaced, I am impressed that I was a partner in their decision-making process in terms of what and how to do it. In short, they collaborated with me when they might have dictated. The care I received came not only with my appreciative approval but my active participation.

Karen, and especially Ruthann, were noticeably observant of my activity giving me constant and timely feedback and much appreciated encouragement. For an old coot turning 80 next week, I am physically and spiritually healing due, in no small measure, to their personal as well as professional care-giving.

I am deeply grateful for Cornerstone VNA. Thank you for providing me with such wonderful, caring professional therapists. I deeply appreciate everything they did and all that they gave. I was blessed to be in your and their care.”

Our thanks to David for sharing his experience with us! We truly love what we do, and it makes us so proud when we receive special letters of gratitude from our patients.

This week we celebrate our Home Care program and express our appreciation for the care and compassion our clinicians provide to their patients every day.  National Home CareHospice and Palliative Care Month is a time to recognize these important programs and we extend our gratitude to all of our staff for the passion, expertise, exceptional care and service they provide.

According to the National Association for Home Care and Hospice, “November is Home Care and Hospice Month. During the month of November, the home care and hospice community honors the millions of nurses, home care aides, therapists, and social workers who make a remarkable difference for the patients and families they serve. These heroic caregivers play a central role in our health care system and in homes across the nation.”

They also report that “data shows home health visits can reduce the likelihood of hospital readmission by as much as 25% and that ninety percent of Americans want to age in place, and home care is the preferred method of health care delivery among the disabled, elderly, and chronically ill.”

If you or a loved one are in need of home care services, please give us a call at 603-332-1133. Our knowledgeable staff members are always here for you to offer guidance and support.
