We are thrilled to celebrate our Hospice Volunteer, Janet Gnall, for being honored with a Volunteer NH Spirit of NH Award during the annual awards ceremony on Monday, October 21, at the Capitol Center for the Arts in Concord. This special event, hosted by Volunteer NH, recognizes individuals who generously share their time and talents to strengthen and uplift their communities.

Since joining Cornerstone VNA as a Hospice Volunteer in October 2022, Janet has provided compassionate support to our Hospice Care team, patients, their families—and even their pets—through her involvement in our Pet Peace of Mind Program.

Janet’s contributions are as diverse as they are heartfelt. She has:

  • Visited patients in their homes and care facilities, offering companionship tailored to each individual.
  • Helped a pediatric patient and her family by playing games, doing crafts, and even digging for worms in the yard. Janet’s colorful socks and cheerful spirit brought constant smiles, while her care gave the child’s mother precious moments to focus on her older daughter or run important errands.
  • Assisted with vigil care, including a situation where she and another volunteer provided comfort to a grieving husband after his wife’s passing.

Janet’s compassion extends to four-legged family members, too. She’s transported patients’ pets to vet appointments, ensured they were fed and cared for, and brought joy to both patients and pets alike during her visits.

Her ability to form genuine connections shines in all she does. Janet once discovered a shared love of hockey with a patient and arranged a special moment by bringing her laptop to watch a replay of the patient’s favorite college team’s game.

Beyond her hands-on volunteering, Janet plays a crucial role in mentoring others. She has helped train new volunteers and welcomed those shadowing her for death doula projects, always willing to share her experience and wisdom.

Janet’s bubbly personality, flexibility, and unwavering commitment to our patients and families make her an indispensable part of the Cornerstone VNA team. We couldn’t be prouder to have her recognized with this well-deserved award.
